Mig-21, Mongolia. Built in the 1970s this Soviet air base had a two mile long runway and was seen as a frontline for any possible conflict with China. Divisions stationed at the borders of the Soviet bloc were kept at full strength and at high levels of readiness, available for offensive operations.
